Neem - Info
Neem is one of the most ancient and widely used herbs on earth. Its medicinal qualities are outlined in the earliest Sanskrit writings. Modern scientists are finding even more uses for this remarkable tree. The seeds, bark and leaves contain compounds with proven antiseptic, antiviral, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and antifungal uses. Although major studies to conclusively prove neem’s effectiveness are limited by financing and the general lack of knowledge in the West about it, preliminary studies suggest exciting uses for neem:
Dermatology:
Psoriasis: Neem Seed Oil and Neem Leaf Extract have been successfully treating the symptoms of psoriasis. It relieves the itching and pain while reducing the scale and redness of the patchy lesions.
Herpes: Recent tests in Germany show that neem extracts are toxic to the herpes virus and can aid in a rapid healing of cold sores.
Fungi: Neem is toxic to several fungi which attack humans, including those that cause athlete’s foot and ringworm, and candida, an organism that causes yeast infections and thrush.”
Pet-Care:
Parasites:
“Lice are usually treated with shampoo containing neem and a neem-based cream to the hair and scalp.” ( you can add neem seed oil to your shampoo, shake well).
Scabies : Itch mites are affected the same way lice are by neem.” Apply neem leaf extract mixed in a carrier lotion on skin and bath in water with neem leaf tincture. Use neem soap and shampoo (liquid soap and shampoo can be mixed with neem seed oil) and wash thoroughly and apply neem based cream or lotion.
Insect repellent:
Insecticide:
Periodontal disease:
Birth control (women):
“Many of the more difficult to treat disorders against which neem has proven to be effective include heart disease, diabetes, psoriasis, malaria, ulcers, Candida and gum disease. These diseases do not always respond to even the most advanced treatments available through modern medicine. Neem offers its users the ability to take action against these and other seemingly intractable diseases with a safe and time-proven herb.”
Quotations are from the following book: “Neem - The Ultimate Herb” by John Conrick
.
Contraindications:
Neem should not be taken by anyone (male or female) who is pregnant or trying to conceive. It also contains compounds similar to those in aspirin and should not be used to treat children with fevers.
Within those limitations, neem is generally considered to be one of the safest medicinal herbs available.
