Description

Pikake Flower 1Jasminum sambac is an evergreen vine or shrub reaching up to  9 ft tall.  Called “Pikake” in Hawaii, Jasminum Sambac is the plant used to flavor the jasmine tea and making perfumes.  The flowers bloom all throughout the year and typically, the flowers are harvested as  buds during early morning.

Open flowers are generally not harvested as a larger amount of them is needed to extract oils and they lose their fragrance sooner.  1000 pounds of blossoms produce one pound of Jasmine oil!    The buds must be picked by hand and transported quickly to a cool environment within a few hours of picking, since they will continue to develop their fragrance and are highly perishable at this stage.  This is a true labor of love!

Caution:   Jasmine sambac absolute should not be used internally or consumed. Pregnant women should not use it in the initial four months of pregnancy.
